UPDATE, (12:30 PM on Thursday, May 9) – A West Virginia State Police trooper stabbed in the line of duty is out of surgery and in stable condition at the hospital this afternoon.
According to West Virginia State Police, Senior Trooper T.C. Hurley underwent surgery after he was stabbed multiple times during a struggle with a suspect in the Ranger area of Lincoln County.
The suspect, Harman Davis, 46, was shot by another trooper and died of his injuries.
UPDATE (7:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 9): A West Virginia State Police trooper shot and killed a man who stabbed a fellow trooper Wednesday night.
The West Virginia State Police say they stopped a vehicle on 10 Mile Road in the Ranger area of Lincoln County. Troopers say that’s when the suspect, 46-year-old Harman Davis, ran into a wooded area.
Once one of the troopers caught up with Davis, he stabbed the trooper multiple times, according to the West Virginia State Police. Another trooper on the scene then shot Davis, who died from his wounds.
The trooper is recovering from surgery in St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington and is in stable condition.
This investigation is ongoing.

The incident happened in the Lincoln County community of Ranger, and first responders say the suspect was shot at the scene.
